General Medical Council (GMC)
The role of the GMC is to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by safeguarding the highest professional standards in the practice of medicine. There are currently over 230,000 doctors on the GMC’s register.
General Optical Council (GOC)
The role of the GOC is to protect the public by promoting high standards of education, conduct and performance amongst their registrants. The GOC currently registers approximately 23,500 optometrists, dispensing opticians, student opticians and optical businesses.
Administrative Justice and Tribunals Council (AJTC)
The Administrative Justice and Tribunals Council is responsible for keeping the administrative justice system under review to ensure it is accessible, fair and efficient. The AJTC seeks to ensure that the relationships between the courts, tribunals, ombudsmen and alternative dispute resolution providers satisfactorily reflect the needs of users. OHPA is listed as a tribunal under the AJTC’s oversight.
